   How did we get here?
A few months ago an announcement was made that ISC/NASSCAR was again considering the South Kitsap area as a possible location for expansion. Many of us were poised for a discussion on the merits of a track in our county with an eye to making a decision of support or opposition based on the merits of any proposal.
   Where are we today?
The discussion has been hijacked by a group of environmental activists, NIMBY homeowners and conspiracy enthusiasts who have successfully framed the debate to their liking while local and state legislators have shown little political courage or foresight in addressing the overblown concerns of this group.
Have county personnel made some errors in judgment? Apparently. Should these be investigated? Yes. Should these episodes put the entire project in jeopardy? No.
Let’s remember, we now have two issues here. One is the efficacy of a track in our community. The other is the process by which we got here. Unless something illegal has occurred, one has nothing to do with the other and we, as citizens, need to hear reasoned, thoughtful debate in order to make our own best decision.
