I learned at the Bremerton open house that the smart cards that can be used on ferries and transit wont be able to be used on the Narrows Bridge.
One of the reasons I abandoned the Seattle market years ago and concentrated my sales on this side of the Sound was not being able to get on the ferry I needed to, to make a commitment, thus forcing me to drive around. Also the lack of frequent mid evening runs puts one on the road rather than spending to the wee hours waiting for a ferry.
From continuing experience visiting children across the Sound, the ferry system has not changed its spots.
My point is simple, stop listening to transit wonks and the big labor featherbedders. Most of us get about in autos and deserve some consideration. Please adjust the definition of frequent user to include those who use both the bridge and ferry system.
If the DOT folk are planning to use transponders that debit an account, extend them for use on the ferries. It could reduce the overhead spent on toll takers.
We have had to pay for every major bridge to and within the Kitsap Peninsula. Isnt it time to give us credit for stepping up to the plate and taking responsibility for our transportation needs?
