LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Tort Reform

I don’t believe Mr. Coppola is being at all “combative” about Tort Reform as Stare Representative Pat Lantz has alleged. What he’s done is point out the fact that Rep. Lantz has betrayed the trust of every citizen in the State of Washington by not letting this issue reach the House floor for debate.

They say that power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. It appears that Rep. Lantz, in her position of absolute power over which bills reach the House floor and which ones don’t, has been absolutely corrupted by her comrades in arms, the trial lawyers.

I do not believe that caps on non-monetary damages are the answer to the problem of runaway jury awards. I also believe that malpractice victims are entitled to much more than the cap limits that have been proposed.

However, there are other types of torts that also need to be addressed, such as builder liability and employer issues. Rep. Lantz has also prevented these issues from being debated and addressed.

These are “cash cows” for lawyers and that must be why Lantz, an attorney herself, is doing her part not to kill the goose that lays the lawyer’s golden eggs.

Rep. Lantz, the citizens you’ve betrayed will be waiting for you on election day.
