There seems to be a problem of the one and the many prevailing here in Kitsap County as a pernicious Whats in it for me attitude begins to infiltrate throughout the entire area.
How else explain the move to rezone the interim rural forest plan to provide hundreds, even thousands more houses, more impervious surface, more pollution?
How else explain the panic and pressure exhibited by those who feel the proposed increase in impact fees would be unfair not to the populace but to the developers who diminish the quality of life here in Kitsap County while promoting it to sell properties?
How else explain the money-making schemes promoted by the Kitsap Facilities and Parks Department to play havoc on our natural forest resources?
Conversely, I believe that as citizens of this county, our basic needs and rights to clean water resources, healthy air, and the preservation of our natural resources are slowly but surely being diminished.
We need our County Commissioners to provide the leadership and vision to make decisions that are not based on the economic needs of the few while overlooking the rights of the majority to a healthy lifestyle. If the whats in it for me attitude prevails, whats in it for the rest of us even ten years from now?
