Thank you for printing Dan Schueler letter, Vashon residents dont want a bridge.
Essentially, in Dans letter, there Mr. Naysayer goes again.
He writes many words, creating a picture of us overcome by ignorance, fear and anger, using all means necessary to prevent any use of Vashon and Maury islands to build a bridge/tunnel system across Puget Sound.
Then theres the picture we see. Over there, we see optimism, courage, jobs, vision and a better tomorrow. We see our ancestors working together on Yerba Buena and Treasure islands to mitigate, not litigate, and build a bridge/tunnel system across San Francisco Bay.
We see our fellow Americans working together to mitigate, not litigate, and build man-made islands to create the seventh wonder of the modern world, the bridge/tunnel system across Chesapeake Bay. We see our fellow Washingtonians working together on Mercer Island to mitigate, not litigate, and build a bridge/tunnel system across Lake Washington. And we see us in the next frontier, working together on Vashon and Maury islands to mitigate, not litigate, and build a bridge/tunnel system across Puget Sound.
Things have changed. And the times they are a changing. The price and quality of our ferry service in Washington State is unsatisfactory. The level of 7.7 percent unemployment in Washington State is unsatisfactory. The more than 100,000 human beings without family wage jobs in Washington State is unsatisfactory. Empty language, broken pledges, an unfulfilled mandate, misinformation, forked-tongues and hyperbole are unsatisfactory.
In short, the pictures we see mean something that we want, we support and we will have better use of resources, be they education, public safety, labor and time. Dans picture means something we dont want and we will not support squandering resources, be they energy and money.
