LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Campaign Material

After receiving an onslaught of fliers from the various candidates for office, I am literally forced to take action and write you this note. I beg to have just one question answered: Since when in this nation of ours did we the people ever say that it was okay for our elected officials and those candidates seeking election to harass, insult and annoy us to the polls?

I received so many pieces of high gloss garbage this election, that I stopped looking at them. Except for a few — a very few — most had no substance, quality or quantity of issue to enlighten me or any other voter with even a small amount of political savvy.

Especially offensive were the numerous glossy attacks by the Democratic party in what would appear to be a desperate attempt to gain leverage using the worst kind of tactic — smear, innuendo and outright lies — to further their campaign against Senator Bob Oke. I counted at least 6 pieces of polished manure that entered my mailbox, which did not have even one real issue that I could grasp as a substantive statement that stood for what the Democratic party was offering for my consideration — just meaningless drivel.

Senator Oke on the other hand managed to send me the same size of high gloss political material with at least issues and information upon which I could focus my easily influenced brain (or so the Democrats would like us all to believe). From this encounter with the dark side of seamy politics I came away with some very basis precepts that I hold to be true: I want my candidates to at least appear to be intelligent by not insulting my intelligence. I expect my candidates to conduct themselves with honor and integrity — even in their campaigns — otherwise, how can I expect them to be honorable when they serve my interests in office? I desire to see real issues and facts put before me for my consideration. Trust me, I can handle it!

Thank you Senator Oke for opening my eyes this campaign to the neglect and harassment that we all have been subjected to for too long calling itself campaign strategy. You got my vote. I trust you. I believe that you will serve me well in office. I voted for you because doing the right thing should have value in this nation of ours. Possessing integrity and conducting oneself with honor must be rewarded!
