Boy, I wish that the Kitsap County commissioners would ask me to help them make cuts in the countys budget. Asking for 10 percent cuts from all departments is ridiculous! The primary duty of the county is the safety of its citizens.
There are plenty of other cuts that could be made if the commissioners are willing to be tough. These commissioners inflated the budget and now they want us to bail them out. For example, according to the countys own figures, 117 new employees have been hired since Commissioner Botkin was elected a mere four years ago. If we lived in a county that was growing, that may be justified, but Kitsap Countys population has remained constant in the last four years. Also, do we really need 57 commissions and boards with the additional staff time and funding that they require? Of course not!
We would not even be talking of raising taxes if we had commissioners who understood Management 101. This is a failure of leadership!
