| The value system for the laws of nations is rooted in the precepts of the dominant religion at the time of the inception of the nation. Loosely defined religion can be any system of faith one chooses to abide by. Atheism and communism would qualify.
At the inception of our great country, the United States of America, the value system of the Judeo-Christian religion became the blueprint for our moral compass. Under guidelines of the Judeo-Christian religion, our nation has been able to endow its citizens with blessings beyond the wildest dreams of all previous civilizations in history.
These blessings are very fragile.
One of our citizens, Michael A. Newdow, has sued in the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals for the purpose of removing the words under God from our Pledge of Allegiance. His suit has been successful. To legally deny his fellow citizens an exercise, that heretofore has been optional for all, seems pointless and perverse. For some, it might even be perceived as a bit of God bashing.
The Rev. Doctor Newdow was ordained in 1977 in the Universal Church. Its adherents believe that rational thought, not God, is guiding life on earth. Whose rational thought??? If there is no religious concept more awesome than mans rational thinking then we most concede that man, the top primate, is the greatest thing there is. The yardstick for what is morally right or wrong would depend on the rationale of individuals. Ultimately, this definition could only lead to anarchy. Anarchy led the Afghans to accept a lesser evil, the Taliban. Anarchy is completely unacceptable. It is the worst there is. Anything is better.
If rational thinking is guiding life on earth, I have questions.
The world has many many civilizations far older than ours. Lots of time for rational thinking. Few, if any have been able to provide the quality of life such as we enjoy in America. Have we been endowed with more special rationing than other people? Are we smarter than other people around the world? I dont think so. Our nation was founded on premises that were enduring and allowed us to flourish in areas that are innate in each human being. Our roots are in the value system of the Judeo-Christian religion.
