Letters To The Editor - Charter
I am disappointed the charter failed. To the many people from whom I solicited their desires, I voted as the majority of you asked in every instance. I have the satisfaction that I keep my word. I grieve for the good workable charter that would have long served the people of Kitsap County. It did not give any one group an exclusionary hold on power.

It had ample checks and balances. I am proud to have been part of the team that made every effort to stay on the high road, while enduring the lyingest slimiest campaign I have been in. If blame is to be cast for the failure of this charter and the expenditure of $270,000 through this process, lay it at the feet of the Democrat leadership.

Democrat Chair Morgan’s statement, “I don’t see any reason why we couldn’t front-load this thing and come up with a bipartisan effort,” causes me to conclude that he needs to re-read the Washington Constitution. The process is an open-ended one. That is why Democrats didn’t control the process when 12 of the 21 on the last Board of Freeholders were endorsed by the party. And no one will the next time either.
