| The Kitsap County Republican Party denounces the snubbing of Commissioner Angel, South Kitsap, from serving her turn as Chair of the Board of County Commissioners as nothing but partisan politics. The commissioners are co-equal elected officials and when actions of this nature are taken the action can only be seen as not only snubbing Angel and South Kitsap constituents but all of Kitsap County citizens. Is South Kitsap of lesser importance than North or Central Kitsap?
The Chair sets the agenda, leads meetings, represents the Board publicly and is the press contact for opinions and information. For the last 30 years this position has rotated yearly among the commissioners giving each area of the county their turn to have their commissioner lead the Board as de facto executive.
In a front page article in The Sun, dated Dec. 18, 2001, Commissioners Botkin and Endresen are quoted as saying that Commissioner Angel lacked experience. Both Botkin and Endresen were allowed the opportunity to represent their districts as Chair after their first year as commissioner. They certainly were not then more qualified that Angel who has served her first year. Endresen is quoted saying that, she has other government experience and Tim is a lawyer, and that, this is the first board Angel has ever served on.
The voters of Kitsap County know that Angel certainly does not lack experience. They know that Angel has chaired national, state and county boards in her extensive business career in the banking and real estate profession and has also served generously on numerous community service organization boards.
The citizens of Kitsap County are weary of this continued spin from the left that only they are, qualified to hold government office. To use this old spin to publicly demean Commissioner Angel is an insult to the citizens of Kitsap County.
Commissioner Angels professionalism, leadership experience and diplomacy are sorely needed in Kitsap County government!
