Letters To The Editor - The Charter
Democrat Party Chairman John Morgan says he is opposed to by-district elections and non-partisan offices because it included the opportunity for "Republicans to win more council seats." Give me a break! With Democrats carrying 70% of the precincts in the 2000 general election, what is he worried about? With this kind of thinking, our country would have missed out on some great leaders like Harry Truman and Rudy Giuliani.

At large elections, with a short campaigning period between the primary and general elections, is one of the major failings of the commissioner form of government. Too few people have the opportunity to learn about the candidates. Uninformed voters make uninformed decisions. With by-district voting, everyone is represented, and three votes of the council represents a majority. The right of initiative and referendum included in the Charter gives citizens a means of correcting poor decisions by elected officials.
CHARTER IS SMARTER! Vote YES!
