Letters To The Editor - The Charter
I want to be represented on the County Council by somebody from my part of the county, who will be chosen by me and my neighbors. We have a much better chance to have the best person in office if we know as much about them as possible. That is the way our charter reads and I like it.

People opposing the charter are champions of an alternative that would have the nomination process finish with the certification of the primary at the end of September before the county-wide general election ballots are mailed out just over two weeks later. That's not long enough for us to get to know the candidate's character or where they stand. They dismissed this concern, yet loudly complained that a February 5, 2002 wasn't enough time to inform the voters. That's 2 ? months after it was approved in its final form on November 3, 2001!

I'm voting for the charter because their arguments don't make sense and because the charter protects our rights and gives us the opportunity for a direct say through initiative and referendum. Check it out at: http://kitsaphomerule.org.

Sincerely,
