| Arguing that five council districts in Kitsap County is the same as nine council districts in Bremerton is like equating apples to oranges. A county council district will have around 46,000 people, more than the entire city of Bremerton while a Bremerton city council district has approximately 4,000 people.
The Freeholders did their best to keep the costs of the new charter government down by recognizing that the worth of the job dropped when the executive function was removed. Accordingly they set the salary at $52,000.
With a five member council, they can comply with the Open Meetings Act and better meet the workload and regional responsibilities required of them.
Overhaul of County government is long overdue. Please join me in voting to approve the Charter on February 5, 2002.
