| Recently, the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) decided that it would not appeal United States District Court Judge Michael Hogans ruling on salmon. Judge Hogan ruled that unless NMFS could show that wild Coho salmon and hatchery Coho salmon are genetically different, all Coho salmon must be counted. This directly affects the listing under the Endangered Species Act. It appears that NMFS was playing fast and loose with the truth by listing them separately.
The arrogance of NMFS was displayed when it ridiculed the lawsuit at the time it was filed. Our county commissioners would do well to remember that they are OUR representatives not NMFS representatives to the citizens of Kitsap County.
