Letters To The Editor - Government Center
I figured out why two of our County Commissioners are pushing the idea of spending $33 million for a large government center in Bremerton. Is it citizen convenience? No. Ample parking? No. Saving taxes? No.

In my opinion, there are two main reasons: One, Commissioners Endresen and Botkin are tired of driving to Port Orchard via Gorst. However, if it is approved, it will require about 270 of their fellow employees to burn more gasoline, fight additional traffic and face daily parking problems.

The second reason, everyday the two commissioners pass the new Port Orchard City Hall. I am sure they feel it’s unjust for a small city of about 7,200 citizens having such a beautiful work place. With over 230,000 constituents they obviously deserve an even more palatial center. As I recall, Port Orchard citizens voted for theirs.

I feel two remedies are justified for the overcrowding of the Courthouse: Put the project on the ballot. Let the people decide. The other solution would be to move two or three departments down to the empty Stage Department Store building in Port Orchard, where they will have ample space and tons of parking. Call your Commissioner.
