Hoodwinked By Kitsap Transit
As a candidate for Kitsap County Commissioner, my viewpoints as well as campaign issues appear in the paper frequently. I appreciate and respect the attempts to keep local citizens informed while providing education on issues.

Over the past few weeks several articles have appeared with regard to Kitsap Transit. One very important issue here is continually overlooked. In January 2000, Kitsap Transit pulled services based on the loss of I-695 revenues. I personally have confirmed with transportation committee members in Olympia, the State of Washington allocated funds which were directly given to reinstate those services. Kitsap Transit placed those funds in capital revenue rather than reinstating those services. They then came to the people wanting a tax increase. Less than a week before the vote on Sept. 19, Kitsap Transit purchased a building at approximately $750,000.

Service for handicapped and need-based citizens must be addressed and not held hostage.
