A tip for the IRS
By Don C. Brunell, President
Association of Washington Business
The U. S. Supreme Court recently gave its blessing to the Internal Revenue Service to guess what some employers owe in taxes. The specter of the IRS guessing at tax liability is enough to scare any red-blooded American. This IRS policy is not only frightening it is unfair...   (Full Article)

Focus on Issues
Kitsap County has some fine candidates who have “stepped-up to the plate.” It takes courage for a person to throw himself or herself into the arena of public opinion. He or she must know that there are many detractors just waiting for the opportunity to call attention to anything that they regard as less than perfect...   (Full Article)

Smart Growth
Yes, there are people who go to “some” meetings about Smart Growth and walk away convinced it is the solution to all of our problems. Like Dorothy in the “Wizard of Oz,” they skip down the yellow brick road looking for solutions to problems that don’t even exist. If it is called “Smart Growth” it must be smart, right? Wrong...   (Full Article)

Property Takings
Suppose you want to steal your neighbor’s woodsy parcel to keep single-family houses like yours from being built on it, too. You could call the mob, but dealing with the mob can be messy. Government is better...   (Full Article)

Independents, not the parties, hold the key to the election
By Adele Fergusen
One of the most interesting things about Seattle pollster Stuart Elway’s latest poll on how the congressional vote might go in this state is that while Democrats and Republicans each lead in four districts, with one even, independents outnumber the political parties in four and statewide when they’re all added up...   (Full Article)

Letters To The Editor - Smart Growth
When I was seven or eight years old my Dad had a friend who when he came by, would bring me smart pills. Even at that age I questioned my Dad and his friend about their real qualities. I was assured with a smile that they were what he claimed, Smart Pills. They looked like and tasted like M&Ms so I did not push the issue too far...   (Full Article)

My Congressman, Jay Inslee spent a pile of taxpayer dollars on a mailer announcing co-sponsorship of the Telemarketing Relief Act of 2002 (H.R. 3911) that would not just require telemarketers to purge your phone numbers from their call lists, but would require some federal agency to keep a central data base...   (Full Article)

I just finished reading your editorial comments on the KREDC. I think you are completely correct in your thoughts.
