| The Suquamish Tribe General Council reelected Tribal Chairman Leonard Forsman and Tribal Secretary Linda Holt at its annual meeting held at Kiana Lodge. The voters chose Forsman over challenger Bennie Armstrong and Holt over challengers Roger Contraro, Mark Crowell and Jim Boure. Forsman and Holt will serve 3 year terms.
Forsman is serving his second term as chairman and said I am humbled by support of the people of the Suquamish Tribe. I look forward to leading our continued cultural, economic and social resurgence here in Suquamish. We have a lot of work to do and glad that the people have chosen me to lead them over the next three years. I am especially looking forward to our hosting of tribal canoe journeys in 2009.
Holt is also serving her second term as Tribal Council secretary. Holt noted her work as chairman of the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board which recently culminated in the passage of the Indian Health Care Reauthorization Act in the United States Senate. |
