| Speaking Circles on Bainbridge Island recently announced a schedule of fall sessions and a breakthrough intensive workshop according to certified facilitators, Connie Miller, Susan Kramer-Pope and Alison Asher.
After twenty years of coaching attorneys through their opening statements, Miller, a newly certified facilitator, announced plans for a workshop on Saturday, October 21. The well-known local artist and communication coach is enthusiastic about this new approach to public speaking. After participating, she is hopeful community members will feel free to participate more in public decision making.
This is one of the greatest fears of all human beings, getting up in front of a group, she explained. Our limbic system tells us to fight or flee and we are hit with a powerful surge of adrenaline. Were not used to it so we tense up rather like pressing down on the accelerator with one foot and the brake with the other foot at the same time. It makes us lurch with fear, creating lots of weird behaviors like, hot and cold flashes, nausea, shaking, dry mouth, and speaking very rapidly. People naturally dread the experience, avoiding it at all cost.
Speaking Circles uses an approach designed to change that experience, providing a safe and supportive environment to experience your own natural presence, and discover your own voice.
The three facilitators will work together on the session from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The workshop is limited to eight participants.
This will be a real blast for anyone who wants to experience a real spiritual progression, said Miller. The depth of expression increases with each participants turn, so a full day of it with a potluck in the middle, calls up some pretty amazing artistry. Its like great theater. And a great place to meet new people, she added.
