BPA welcomes Harp-Reed
as new Education Director |
Bainbridge Performing Arts (BPA) recently announced that Karen Harp-Reed has joined the BPA staff as the new education director. Harp-Reed brings nearly 30 years of teaching and performing experience to the position, and takes over for Steven Fogell who had resigned. She has taught theatre, music and dance to students of all ages, including teaching teachers how to teach the arts.
Harp-Reed's special qualifications include a BA in music with minors in dance and theatre, as well as teaching credentials from California and Washington K-12 in vocal and instrumental music, dance and theatre. Harp-Reed additionally teaches for the Bainbridge Island Arts Consortium.

Leadership Kitsap names new board, new exec |
Leadership Kitsap has appointed four new board members for the 2005-2006 curriculum year: Dr. Beverly Cheney, superintendent of South Kitsap School District; Shelley Kneip, deputy prosecuting attorney for Kitsap County; Melissa Tippets, operations manager for Donobi, Inc. and Kelly Woodward, Poulsbo campus director, Olympic College.
The organization also has hired a new executive director, Kathy Nelson. Nelson has a background in sales and marketing including owning a business.

Zerr's most recent post was as a Certified Business Development Specialist for the Kitsap Business Assistance Center (KBAC) in Bremerton where she counseled small businesses on issues related to start up and growth. Zerr, who also served as executive director of the Silverdale Chamber at one time, has an extensive background as a business owner, entrepreneur and community activist.

EFFs Bob Williams to speak in Silverdale |
Bob Williams, President of Evergreen Freedom Foundation (EFF), will be in Silverdale to discuss the EFFs Voter Integrity Project and the results of EFFs investigation of the 2004 Governors race. Thomsen honored for
helping colleagues succeed |
The financial-services firm Edward Jones began as a regional firm with about 300 offices in the early 1980s and evolved into a global investment firm with more than 9,000 offices today. The firms value-based culture of helping individuals succeed was primarily responsible for that growth, and Jeff Thomsen was recently honored for his contribution to that culture.

Literacy Council of Kitsap
honors Olga Fedorovski |
The Literacy Council of Kitsap recently honored Olga Fedorovski, the Councils program coordinator, for outstanding performance in improving the literacy of adults in Kitsap County.
Fedorovski is responsible for training and assisting tutors; assessing students, matching them with tutors and monitoring their progress. She has been with the Literacy Council since January 2002.

Jeanette Berkovitz of Bremerton has been elected president of the Kitsap Mental Health Services Board of Directors for 2005-06.

Steve Stagner signs on

Local artist carves out niche in field of 23 |
Local resident, Lance Rigby won his division in the Oregon Divisional Chainsaw Sculpting Championships. He competed against a field of 23 semi-pro carvers. Rigby received a cash prize, a large chainsaw and trophy and is now considered a professional chainsaw carver by the industry.
