State Collection Agency Board
seeks new member

The State of Washington Collection Agency Board has an open board member position. The board is seeking a public representative to begin immediately and serve on the board until December 31, 2007. The five-member board is appointed by the Governor to conduct disciplinary hearings and administer state law.

To be considered, a candidate cannot have any interest in any collection agency nor hold any other elected or appointed state or federal office.

The commitment requires the candidate to attend disciplinary hearings and board meetings as deemed necessary. The Board members work closely with the agency on disciplinary actions and collection agency industry issues. Currently there are 484 in-state and 390 out-of-state collection agencies licensed by DOL.

On average, the board has met twice per year in Olympia. In addition, the member will be responsible for responding to collection agency issues via mail correspondence, e-mail and telephone.

Board member compensation is $50 per working day, in addition to travel expenses such as meals, travel and lodging.
