A Mar. 6 grand opening is planned for Kitsap Community Federal Credit Unions (KCFCU) Student Financial Center at Bremerton High School. The public/private partnership was born more than a year ago when officials at the high school contacted the Credit Union.
We were honored and very excited about the proposal, said KCFCU President and CEO Elliot Gregg. It affords us the opportunity to extend much needed money management education to young adults in our community. Its a natural extension of our Mock Credit Union program we offer to sixth grade classes in four area schools.
Bremerton School District Director of Career and Technical Education Sue Longstreth said the students will see a great benefit from the branch. Ten students were selected through an interview process to work in the branch under the direct supervision of credit union employees. The unpaid positions are part of the students classroom curriculum.
Students and staff will be able to make basic transactions and get information about loans and other credit union products and services through the branch.
Credit union employees have been conducting various classroom workshops as part of this partnership. They include marketing, career opportunities, interview techniques, workplace etiquette and dressing for success. Future sessions will include budgeting, credit, financial planning, and savings and investing.
The Bremerton High School Student Financial Center will be located in the schools ticket booth just inside the main entrance and will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays during lunch hours. |
