James (Jim) Randolph Hall

Jim Hall, 74, of Port Orchard, died peacefully at his home on Nov. 23, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. His family was with him at the time of his death.

Hall and his wife Cathy owned and operated the Reflections Bed & Breakfast in Port Orchard, where they hosted guests from all over the world.

He was born Dec. 3, 1927 in New London, Conn., to R.Adm. F.S. Hall and Gertrude (McDiarmid) Hall.

He was a 1946 graduate of Fredonia High School in Fredonia, New York. He attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, served in the Army Air Corps, and graduated from University of Washington in 1950, and married Catherine Fauntz on June 8, 1951 in Seattle.

Prior to his retirement and the purchase of Reflections, Hall worked for the Civil Aeronautics Administration in Alaska, Colorado, and Oklahoma before joining Hewlett-Packard in Washington, D.C. in 1959. He served as Regional Manager in New England and took an early retirement in 1985.

Hall Is perhaps best known locally for his community activities. He was very active in Port Orchard Rotary Club, having served on its board, and heading up the Rotary Foundation for the club. Under his leadership, membership in the foundation grew to one of the highest per capita in the nation. He was slated to serve as president in 2002, but stepped down due to his illness. He was also a member of the South Kitsap Chamber of Commerce, Kitsap Literacy Council, where he was active in involving Rotary in the group’s annual spelling bee, and in the Summit Avenue Presbyterian Church.

Hall, who was a fixture at Myrhes in Port Orchard where he enjoyed meeting his friends, also enjoyed boating in both the San Juan Islands and on Chesapeake Bay, golfing, flying his Cessna-172, attending Husky and Mariners games as well as rooting on his other favorite sporting teams, woodworking, gardening and playing with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Catherine Fauntz; their four children, Duff and Ginger Hall of Corvallis, Oregon; Pamela Hall of Portland, Oregon; Stacy (Hall) and Tom Brink of Phoenix, Arizona; Julie Hall and Mark Finerty of Kensington, New Hampshire; six grandsons and one granddaughter.

A memorial service was held at Rill Chapel on Nov. 26. Donations may be made to the Rotary Foundation in care of Port Orchard Rotary Club, in memory of Jim Hall.
