Peninsula Credit Union helps small
West African credit union survive
Employees of Peninsula Community Credit Union’s Port Orchard branch wear traditional West African clothing to help emphasize their fundraising efforts.
Recently, Peninsula Community Federal Credit Union (PCFCU) learned that its Sister Credit Union in a small village named Ndiaw Ndiaw, (pronounced “enJOW enJOW”) located in Senegal, West Africa had its safe and entire asset base of $5,000 stolen. The money was the life savings for the entire village.
Ndiaw Ndiaw is a place where electricity and running water are not yet available, and this Credit Union plays a huge roll in the village. Being the only public building, it also serves as a school and public meeting place. To lose the safe and the money it contained was devastating.
Insurance is not also available, but with the help of the PCFCU membership and the credit union community, the village will soon be able to function once again with donated funds that will replenish what was stolen.
Any donation will help this unfortunate community, and to help, PCFCU will be hosting several events at its Port Orchard, Belfair, and Shelton branches to help raise funds for the people of Ndiaw Ndiaw. To promote the spirit of the event, all staff members will be dressed in customary clothing worn in the village.
