| Seniors may quality for special tax credit.
Seniors, age 65 and older, or retired on permanent and total disability, may qualify for a special tax credit. The Credit for the Elderly or Disabled can reduce your tax bill dollar for dollar, up to $1,125. You may qualify for this credit if:
You are a U.S. citizen or resident,
Your adjusted gross income is not more than $12,500 to $25,000 (depending on your filing status), and
Your non-taxable income from Social Security or other non-taxable pension is not more than $3,750 to $7,500 (also depending on your filing status). If you are under age 65, you may qualify if youre retired on permanent and total disability and receive taxable disability income.

AARP Tax-Aide/IRS program offers free tax assistance
AARP Tax-Aide/Internal Revenue Service volunteers provide free tax counseling and return preparation for individuals with middle and low income, especially those 60 years of age and older. This free service is available Feb. 1 through April 15 and is offered at various locations around the state.
