Dick Brandenburg calls it a career
Retiring Port of Bremerton executive director leaves Port in better shape than he found it with a reputation for being business-friendly and poised for growth |
Executive Director of the Port of Bremerton, Dick Brandenburg, has decided to call it a career. After five years at the Port, he retired on Dec. 31.
Brandenburg brought a background in commercial real estate both in Kitsap County and the greater Seattle area, along with past partnerships in private ventures to the Port when he signed on. His experience and expertise are credited with helping lead the Ports economic development efforts into the 21st Century.
Dick was able to bring a measure of professionalism to the Port because of his experience in commercial leasing, and he will leave big shoes to fill in that area, said Port Commissioner Bill Mahan.
Brandenburg increased the Ports exposure through marketing efforts both inside and outside of Kitsap County that stressed quality of life and the type of quality facilities businesses need to succeed.
We have several years of development in place for the market of the future,: he said. As it evolves, were ready now. When people come to the Port, we can show them what they need.
Under his tenure, the Port has come to be known as a very business-friendly entity to work with. He improved upon established working relationships with the Kitsap Regional Economic Development Council, Kitsap County and the cities of Port Orchard and Bremerton, partnering on a number of projects large and small with all of them. He helped bring increased awareness of the free trade zone at the Port and was instrumental in the establishment of an international trade development effort now underway there.
Asked what mark he felt he left on the Port, Brandenburg answered, The thing I am most satisfied with is the development of a highly professional staff people who are highly qualified, follow through, and who know how to bring quality product to the industrial market.
Brandenburg said he intends to stay in the area, taking on the duties of a doting grandfather and husband and then some. He said hell be keeping in touch with people interested in investing in the area. I am such a believer in Kitsap, that Ill be watching with fascination to see how I can participate in its future growth. |
