Datek ups fees for inactive accounts
   Online broker Datek has announced that effective Sept. 30 it will introduce an inactivity fee of $15 per quarter.

The fee will not apply to accounts that execute four or more trades in the prior six month period, to accounts with at least $5,000 in account value or to retirement accounts.

If a Datek account meets the four trade or $5,000 account value criteria, then it won’t be charged the fee.
Effective July 1 the brokerage firm also announced new fees or fee increases to the following services:

• $2.00 postage and handling per-trade fee for paper trade

confirmations, but no fee for electronic confirmations.
• $25.00 forced liquidation fee ($9.99 plus $15.01 handling fee)

for liquidation’s performed on behalf of clients.
• $25.00 fee for returned checks
• $75.00 fee for issuance of stock certificates
