| The Hannah Langer Spirit of Philanthropy Award was presented to community leader A.H. Ike Parker by the Kitsap Community Foundation on April 25. The group honored Parker at its Breakfast for Philanthropy which was held at the West Coast Silverdale Hotel.
Parker is the first recipient of the Hannah Langer Award, named after the longtime president of Kitsap Bank, who was the first woman bank president west of the Mississippi when she succeeded her husband Frank in that post. Langer was very active in local charitable causes.
Parker was singled out for his extraordinary spirit of philanthropy as well as his giving of energy, talent and financial support to a host of community projects and activities over the past half century most notably, the Bremerton Family YMCA and the Admiral Theatre.
Grants from the Unrestricted Fund were awarded to: The Admiral Theatre for tickets for young people; Bremerton Food Line for food handling equipment; Central State Theatre for stage curtains; Habitat for Humanity; Kitsap Adoption Group for its Adoption Information Fair; Kitsap Land Trust for the Clear Creek Task Forces Interpretive Center; Kitsap Sexual Assault Centers parents CARE group; Leadership Kitsap for scholarships; North Kitsap Friends of the Library for juried art work; Project Family for scholarships and RMH Services for psychiatric services.
Grants from Donor Advised Funds went to: The Bremerton Symphony; Literacy Council of Kitsap for site renovations and the Seabeck Christian Conference Center for restoration of the Inn.
Money from the Youth Grant Fund was awarded to: Campfire Boys and Girls for youth training; Central Kitsap School District for Super Saturday; Planned Parenthood and Kitsap Parks for the Health, Wealth and Happiness Conference; and to Project Family for school supply packets. |
