Retirement planning program offered

Dain Rauscher offers investment seminar

Thatcher meets with money managers
   Jim Thatcher, of the Bremerton office of Edward Jones, was one of only 51 Jones brokers nationwide invited to travel to St. Louis to meet with representatives from Federated Funds.
   The Business Development Workshop brought together investment representatives who have achieved a certain level of success in the financial-services business to discuss investment management with the portfolio manager and analysts of one of the largest money managers in the United States.

SBC to acquire remaining Prodigy shares
   The Texas-based telecom group that owns Pacific Bell and Ameritech, SBC Communications, has announced it will acquire the 58 per cent of shares in Prodigy, the internet service provider, that it does not already own.
   SBC will offer a 54 per cent premium that would value the deal at $222 million, and the company at $381 million.
   Prodigy, originally a joint venture of AT&T and Sears, was one of the very first online services and at one-time AOL’s major competitor. It now only offers dial-up internet connections as well as DSL subscriptions. Last year it posted an operating loss of $315 million and a net loss of $209 million on revenues of $376 million.
