Thatcher meets with money managers |

SBC to acquire remaining Prodigy shares |
The Texas-based telecom group that owns Pacific Bell and Ameritech, SBC Communications, has announced it will acquire the 58 per cent of shares in Prodigy, the internet service provider, that it does not already own.
SBC will offer a 54 per cent premium that would value the deal at $222 million, and the company at $381 million.
Prodigy, originally a joint venture of AT&T and Sears, was one of the very first online services and at one-time AOLs major competitor. It now only offers dial-up internet connections as well as DSL subscriptions. Last year it posted an operating loss of $315 million and a net loss of $209 million on revenues of $376 million. |
