Alaska Airlines No. 2 for on-time arrivals in September

Only Hawaiian Airlines had a better on-time arrival performance in September than Alaska Airlines.

The subsidiary of Alaska Air Group Inc. of Seattle reported that 90 percent of its flights arrived on-time in September, bested only by Hawaiian, which reported a 94.1 percent mark.

The average of all 19 airlines covered by the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Air Travel Consumer Report was 86.2 percent. Atlantic Southeast Airlines reported the worst performance, at 72.2 percent for September.

Alaska Airlines has been the No. 2 airline in on-time performance for the past several months, including 85.8 percent in August and 87.2 percent in July.

The airline has more current on-time information than the government’s latest figures and for October, the airline reported on-time performance of 85.8 percent. For the first 10 months of the year, the airline reports that 82.3 percent of its flights arrived on time, which compares with 79.8 percent for the first 10 months of 2008.

Alaska Airlines and sister airline Horizon Air fly nearly half of the passenger traffic at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.
