Washington residents have recycled 18,773,995 pounds of electronics under a new free program during the first six months of this year. Television sets made up 57 percent of that volume.
Manufacturers are now required by state law to provide recycling services for TVs, desktop computers, laptops, and monitors at no cost to residents, non-profits, small businesses, schools, and small local governments through the new E-CYCLE Washington program. There are also recycling opportunities for electronic items not covered under the new law. For an up-to-date list, call (800) RECYCLE (732-9253). In addition, many local retail chains, non-profits, and other businesses accept a variety of electronics for reuse or recycling.
