Wave Broadband, a local cable, internet and phone service provider, has volunteered to support a Kitsap-based non-profit organization, Blue Star Banner Program (BSBP). Kitsap’s BSBP, founded by Lynette George of Seabeck, displays six foot banners all around the Kitsap region to honor local men and women serving in the military.
BSBP has been enlisting the help of local government, businesses and families since 2005 to support its commitment to pay tribute to local military service men and women. Challenging economic conditions have led to budget cuts for many volunteer projects, and BSBP was left without a resource to help continue hanging and maintaining the banners. “I was so overwhelmed when Wave Broadband called, offering their support at the right time to support our program,” said George. “Not only does Wave want to hang our banners for us, they are also willing to help expand the program.”
Wave volunteered to utilize its trucks, equipment and field technicians to hang new banners for BSBP. “We were more than happy to step up to the plate and help the Blue Star Banner Program,” says Michael Talpai, Regional Vice President of Wave Broadband, “Wave is a part of this community, and the military plays a huge role in our lives in this community. We are thrilled that we can help honor our local men and women who serve our country here and away from home.”
In addition to helping BSBP hang new banners in the Kitsap area, Wave is also helping the organization branch out into other areas.
Wave’s support for the Blue Star Banner Program is one of its Connecting Communities Initiative, which also includes community events and sponsorships, donation of services, local classroom support, and more. For more information about Kitsap’s Blue Star Banner Program, visit www.kitsapbluestar.org.
