State Auditor gives City of Port Orchard another thumbs up
Washington State Auditor Brian Sonntag has given the City of Port Orchard another clean financial bill of health in an annual audit report issued on Jan. 7.

City Treasurer Kris Tompkins stated, “I’m extremely pleased that we have passed another audit with flying colors, and are continuing the city’s great track record of financial management and accountability to the citizens of Port Orchard.”

Tompkins, who has been with the city for 35 years, has been the treasurer for the past 26. In that time, the State Auditor’s office has only found one minor item to report on — and that was 15 years ago. In fact, in 2002, the Auditor sent the city a letter congratulating it on its twelfth consecutive audit without a finding. That letter is framed and hangs at the front customer service counter.

“I’m extremely proud of Kris and her team, and the great job they do for the city,” said Mayor Lary Coppola. “All the citizens of Port Orchard deserve to be proud as well, knowing their public servants have proven themselves to be among the best.”
