Harrison Medical Center recently broke ground on the expansion of its Port Orchard campus, located at 450 South Kitsap Blvd., just east of highway 16. The ceremonial groundbreaking took place Jan. 30. The project includes a 24-hour urgent care center, expanded imaging services, physician offices, and a host of outpatient services. Completion of a new three-story, 36,000-square-foot medical building is scheduled for January 2009.
On hand for the event were Harrison Board President Jim Smalley, Harrison’s CEO Scott Bosch, Port Orchard Mayor Lary Coppola, along with Dan Ryan of Tim Ryan Construction, which will serve as general contactor, and Steve Rice of Rice Fergus Miller, architects for the project.
The development represents phase two of Harrison’s master plan for the Port Orchard campus that began in 1995 to meet the healthcare needs of the growing number of South Kitsap residents. Inspired by the area’s environment and architecture, the new building will reflect the village-like design of the existing medical building, whose exterior renovation will assure a cohesive blend of old and new.
In a unique sell-and-lease partnership, Harrison has sold the seven-acre-campus and existing building to Tim Ryan Properties, LP, of Poulsbo, who will also own the new building. Harrison now leases the existing 33,000-square-foot medical office building on the campus and will follow suit with the new facility. “It is a mission-driven decision,” explains Harrison President and CEO Scott Bosch. “This model of selling and leasing back frees several millions of dollars that we can reinvest in more healthcare services, further fulfilling our mission to provide exceptional medical care to our communities.”
Nearly 18,000 patients each year receive care at Harrison’s urgent care center, open seven days a week, from 7:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., by walk in or appointment. Other Harrison services at the campus include primary care, rehabilitation, home health, lab, and imaging services.
