| Gig Harbor’s Regal Cinema, a three-screen movie house, will close doors in January. The closing is due to the theater’s inability to compete with the upcoming Galaxy Theatre, according to reports in the local media.
Galaxy Theatres, LLC, is in the final stages of building a 10-screen, state-of-the-art theater in the Uptown Gig Harbor shopping complex, located next to the new MultiCare Medical Park. Galaxy’s growth is mostly in secondary markets, and includes locations primarily in Washington, California and Nevada. The theater is expected to open by spring. Uptown Gig Harbor is also home to the recently opened Borders Books, Panera Bread and Coldwater Creek, with more stores including Chicos and Ben & Jerry Ice Cream on their way.
No one from Regal Cinemas, which also operates multi-screen theatres in Kitsap County, responded to requests for comment by presstime.
