SAFE Boats International, LLC., the Port Orchard-based boat manufacturer, has signed a contract with the Mexican Navy — Armada de Mexico — to begin building a faster and stronger small boat force around the entire coast of Mexico.
The 33’ Defender Class vessel is the platform of choice based on the craft’s multi-mission capabilities such as SAR, near shore patrol and high speed, offshore interdiction. The six boats now on order are slotted for three different naval installations around Mexico.
Originally designed for the US Customs and Border Protection and the US Coast Guard, the 33’ Defender has become one of the most successful tools for the US Department of Homeland Security and its ongoing battle of border protection, counter narcotic operations and illegal immigration deterrence.
