Things I Can’t Live Without
Julie Tappero
Being raised with the belief that individuals can change the world has influenced Julie Tappero to be committed to community services, and it’s what feeds her soul. Starting back in junior high school, Tappero and a friend would go door-to-door collecting books to send to soldiers in Vietnam. Later in high school, she became a volunteer with the Barry Goldwater campaign. While in high school she volunteered on campaigns for both Ronald Regan and Richard Nixon. “My passion for causes has been with me for as long as I can remember,” said Tappero, president of West Sound Workforce.

Upon moving to Kitsap County in 1990, she became part of the effort to save Banner Forest. Her interests took off and range from economic or workforce development to assisting with the historical museum in Gig Harbor. “I have a hard time saying no to a cause or effort that is important or will make a difference in my community.

As Margaret Mead said, ‘Never doubt that a small group of citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.’ That philosophy has been my guiding principle,” Tappero said.

Her passion for community involvement is also reflected in her business, as West Sound Workforce belongs to many chambers of commerce and other organizations.
