My Kid’s Cookies sweeten up the holidays
Bainbridge Mom launches new business venture
Companies looking for a tasty way to say thank you to their customers, vendors or employees this holiday season can look to My Kids’ Cookies. Offering freshly baked, individually wrapped cookies packaged by the dozen, My Kids’ Cookies is the brainchild of Bainbridge Island mom Barbara Reininger.

With two young children at home, Reininger did what most moms do on occasion — bake cookies. As the cookies started piling up quicker than her family could eat them, she started giving them away. Always looking to teach her kids about the power of sharing, Reininger encouraged her two kids to hold cookie raffles and as a family they would deliver them to grateful friends and neighbors “just because.”

When requests for more started piling in, Reininger decided to quit her job in the world of high-tech and dive full time into as she puts it “an endless vat of chocolate chips.”

“It’s a complete surprise to me that I’ve been able to turn my love of baking into a successful business venture. I used to hope baking cookies would get the kids to do their homework. Now I’m hoping baking cookies will send them to college,” says Reininger.

The cookies, which contain no preservatives, are individually wrapped and made to order. They sell for $18 per dozen and can be mailed safely in her decorative boxes anywhere in the Continental US. Reininger personally delivers orders on Bainbridge Island free of shipping charges. Corporate branding is also available for business orders.

A recent Island transplant, Reininger, has always been involved in what she calls the “kid business.” A former PTA president and Girl Scout leader for nine years, she has plans to co-partner with area schools in their fund raising efforts. “Kids sell a lot of stuff when they’re trying to raise money for camps, field-trips or band uniforms. Why not sell something locally-made that can be enjoyed by all?” Reininger is willing to donate a percentage of the profits raised to the school’s fundraising efforts.

Another cause near and dear to her heart is the Save The Children Organization which creates positive and lasting change in the lives of children in need in the United States and around the world. Before beginning her company, Reininger and her family sponsored a young girl from Nepal. Now a percentage of sales from My Kids’ Cookies goes to continue that sponsorship. As her business grows, she hopes to help needy children through similar programs.

Reininger is also looking for other retail partners who want to offer her delectable cookies at their business. On her website, www.MyKidsCookies.com, she offers her logo on colorful baseball caps and will soon offer sweatshirts as well as the ever-popular, Number. 2 school pencils.

“Giving and receiving cookies always results in a big smile,” she says and as Mae West once said, ‘too much of a good thing can be wonderful.’ “I’m hoping that applies to My Kids’ Cookies as well,” says Reininger.
