| A Community Electronic Waste Recycling Day was held Saturday, Sept. 15 at Central Kitsap High School (CKHS). During the event, almost 24 tons of electronic waste including 283 computer monitors and 255 televisions were collected to be recycled.
Olympic Printer Resources, Inc. of Kingston and EcycleNW of Sequim teamed up with the Sound Publishing Group, American Marine Bank and United Rentals to sponsor the event. Over 20 students from the school volunteered to work at the event, and $1,250 of the fees collected were donated to the Central Kitsap High School Leadership Class that raises funds to support school extra curricular activities.
CKHS Leadership students worked continuously for six hours collecting, sorting and packaging the items collected, which will be disassembled into their component parts by EcycleNW or resold to certified processors who adhere to U.S. export control regulations regarding the safe handling of Electronic Waste.
Pete DeBoer, President of Olympic Printer Resources, Inc. said Our company has been about recycling printer cartridges for fourteen years. We started working with EcycleNW this April and we have found the demand for disposal of electronic waste to be phenomenal. In only five months we have collected over 61 tons of waste to be processed.
