Soroptimist charters in Gig Harbor
Soroptimist International, an international volunteer organization for business and professional women, recently chartered a new club in Gig Harbor. The organization’s mission is to improve the lives of women and girls, in local communities and throughout the world.

The club chartered with 26 members who represent professions in real estate, lending, advertising, and banking, among others. Jo Mobley, the co-owner of Compensation Consultants, Inc., will be the club’s first president.

“Every community can benefit from the positive influence of what Soroptimist has to offer,” said Mobley, whose club plans to help at the local women’s correctional center, lend a hand to high-school girls, and meet the needs of women in crisis. “Our club hopes to one day opens its own domestic violence shelter.”

The club’s official charter banquet will occur on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 6 p.m., at The Inn at Gig Harbor (3211 56th St. NW), and will include a social hour and silent auction.
