Former U.S. Rep. Jennifer Dunn
passes away at 66
Former Republican U.S. Rep. Jennifer Dunn, who represented Seattle’s conservative Eastside suburbs for six terms in Congress, and who passed on two opportunities to serve in President Bush’s cabinet, passed away today after suffering a pulmonary embolism. She was 66.

She died peacefully, surrounded by family, in her Alexandria, Virginia apartment according to a statement released by her son, King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn.

“We are deeply saddened and shocked by the passing of Congresswoman Jennifer Dunn,” stated Washington State Republican Party Chairman Luke Esser. “ She was a real champion for the State of Washington and will be truly missed. Jennifer embodied the principles we expect from leaders of political parties and elected officials. Her dedication to public service and record of accomplishment is an inspiration to all.”

Dunn was a trailblazer who cleared the way for other women to follow. Among a steller career that was noted for “Firsts:”

  • First woman to chair the Washington State Republican Party
  • First freshman woman to win a place in the House Republican leadership team
  • The highest ranking Republican woman in leadership as the vice chairman of the Conference.

Her legacy will include an entire generation of Republican grassroots activists that learned through her to fight for their principles and values with thoughtfulness and grace.
