KPS Health Plans board of directors has retained Richard Marks to serve as president on an interim basis. He replaces Elizabeth Gilje who resigned July 13 after eight years as president/CEO of the company.

“Marks experience as a high-level health plan administrator and his dedication to the health care industry allows him to step in and keep KPS moving forward,” said Rick Woods, chairman of the KPS board of directors and Group Health executive vice president and general counsel. ”Marks will provide veteran leadership at KPS while the board plans a process for selection of a new chief executive.”

Richard Marks is an independent management consultant, who specializes in strategic and business planning for healthcare and not-for-profit organizations. Since starting his company, Washington Park Consulting, in 1998, he has worked with governing boards and management teams from hospitals, health care systems, and health plans throughout the state of Washington. In the mid 1990’s he served as president and CEO of the Virginia Mason-Group Health Alliance.

Marks holds a Masters degree in Health Services Administration from the University of Washington and a Bachelor of Arts in history from the University of California at Berkeley.

“KPS has a great structure already in place, and I am thrilled to join the team and build upon the momentum underway,” Marks said. “I hope that my past experience will offer insight and efficiencies to the company and to our customers. I look forward to continuing to grow the KPS business to serve our government and commercial clients across the state.”.
