| The Kitsap County Health District closed its Port Orchard clinic on Apr. 13, due to budget shortfalls and because the number of clinic visits at that location had been decreasing since 2004. One reason for the downturn in visits is the increasing availability of other providers in the area offering immunizations and family planning services. The Health District estimates it will save an estimated $63,470 a year by closing the Port Orchard clinic.
Dr. Scott Lindquist, Health District Director, said, The closure is unfortunate, but we believe the citizens of Port Orchard will be well served by other providers in the area, and by the availability of five-day/week services at our main office in Bremerton.Appointments can be scheduled at the Districts main Bremerton office Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., and at the Poulsbo clinic Mondays and Wednesdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., by calling (360) 337-5235. The District can also provide information about other medical providers in the Port Orchard area. Information about the Districts Parent Child Health Program is available by calling (360) 337-4821.
The Districts food worker classes will continue to be scheduled at the Givens Community Center every Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. and 3:15 p.m.
