First Annual Living Room Makeover
BEFORE

Northwest Design Center in Poulsbo was inspired by the television show Extreme Home Makeover to do something similar in Kitsap County. With generous assistance from other local businesses they developed the Living Room Makeover Contest.

Based on the premise of the Extreme Home Makeover show, they wanted the recipient to be a person that selflessly provided support and assistance to others in their community. An application was developed so people could nominate deserving individuals or even themselves.

A committee was formed to review the applications. The committee included Kathryn Quade (Poulsbo City Mayor), Dee Coppola (Wet Apple Media), Janet Weber (Interior Designer), Mary Coupland (North Kitsap Herald), and Constance Swanlund (Owner, Northwest Design Center). The committee selected Ms. Jill Stenerson of Suquamish as the first recipient of the Living Room Makeover.

Over a three-day period, Stenerson’s living room was completely redecorated.

  • Brock’s Interiors removed old carpeting and replaced it with new carpet tiles.
  • Walls were painted courtesy of Peninsula Paint Co. and Todd Middaugh Painting.

  • Laura Jean and Alan Welch from Harrison Street Design installed new window blinds, custom valances and pillows.
  • Ambient Art created custom paper light sconces.
  • New rain glass panels replaced wood in two interior windows thanks to Parker Lumber.
  • The project was designed and coordinated by Janet Weber, Interior Designer at Northwest Design Center.
  • The furniture and accessories were provided by Northwest Design Center & Furniture Gallery.
  • Poulsbo Inn & Suites generously contributed a three-day stay for Stenerson, while her living room was transformed.

The final value of the completed makeover was $15,000.
