Rob Putaansuu, manager of the Port Orchard branch of Columbia Bank, has been selected by the Port Orchard City Council to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Tye Moore on Oct. 25.
Moore resigned after being convicted of fraud in a business deal not involving the city or city funds.
Putaansuu, a member of the citys planning commission, was one of 10 candidates who had originally applied to fill the vacant seat. The City Council will now have to fill his seat on the planning commission.
Putaansuu was selected in a 6-0 vote following an executive session that had been extended twice before the final vote was taken. The council had wrestled with the selection issue since Moores resignation. A committee comprised of council members Fred Chang, Carolyn Powers and John Clauson had been tasked with interviewing potential candidates but had difficulty selecting one they felt stood out among the others.
Clauson made the motion to name Putaansuu and also urged the nine others to consider volunteering to serve the city in some other capacity.
The planning commission seems to be a training ground for the council. Current council members who also previously served on the planning commission include Chang, Rick Wyatt and Rita DiIenno. |
