OC receives grant to expand electronics dept.
The State Board for Community and Technical Colleges has awarded Olympic College one of nine Workforce Development/Rural Grants for expansion of its electronics program.

Olympic College partnered with the Kitsap Economic Development Council, West Sound Technical Skills Center, the Marine Center of Excellence at Skagit Valley College, IBEW Local 574, Safe Boats, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and the Naval Undersea Warfare Center on development of the grant, which will provide $100,000 a year for two years to update and expand the Electronics program offerings.

There are four main goals involved in the electronics program expansion:

  1. To develop short-term and one-year certificates that will allow students to leave with educational credentials if it is necessary to leave school before attaining the two year ATA degree.
  2. To integrate basic skills competencies in the electronics program at entry level to ensure that all interested students are able to progress into professional-technical or college transfer pathways.
  3. To respond to industry demand that requires specialized preparation in electronics.
  4. To expand the access to educational opportunities for students wanting to work in the electronics industry by offering afternoon, evening and portable courses, allowing OC to expand the program by a minimum of 25-30 students.
