First female Trustee of Rotary Foundation
to speak in Port Orchard
Carolyn E. Jones of Anchorage, AK, made history in 2005 when she became the first female trustee of The Rotary Foundation. She will be the featured speaker at a joint dinner meeting of several local Rotary clubs, to be held at the McCormick Woods Clubhouse restaurant, in Port Orchard, on Wed., Oct. 4 at 6 p.m.

Since joining East Anchorage Rotary Club in 1987, Jones has demonstrated her leadership skills and fundraising talents through a variety of humanitarian projects. Many of these efforts have centered on Russia where she has traveled 27 times in her service to Rotary, four of those as a Rotary Volunteer.

In 1997-98, Jones served as Governor of Rotary District 5010. She raised more than $620,000 to fund 30 humanitarian projects for needy children in Russia.

Rotarian Niels Nielsen of the Port Orchard Rotary Club, who has traveled with Jones several times in Siberia and Russia’s Far East, said “It is a great honor for our local Rotary clubs to be part of this event and we’re fortunate to have this remarkable lady visiting the Puget Sound area.” Nielsen has no doubt that Trustee Carolyn Jones will be the first female President of Rotary International in the near future. She is the first female Rotarian to be elected to a high level position within the leadership of Rotary since its formation 100 years ago. Today Rotary International has over 1.2 million members in almost 170 countries.
