| Grounds for Change, a Poulsbo-based organic coffee roasting company, recently made a $6,000 total contribution to three organizations through its participation in the One Percent For The Planet program an alliance of businesses committed to leveraging their resources to create a healthier planet.
This years donation, equating to 1 percent of total sales, is the largest to date, and was distributed between the Northwest Shade Coffee Campaign, Save Our Wild Salmon and Islandwood on Bainbridge Island.
The Islandwood donation supports 40 fourth, fifth, and sixth grade students from the Kitsap Peninsula, in attending the four-day, overnight environmental program at the 255-acre outdoor learning center. Its programs integrate scientific inquiry, technology and the arts, and students spend a majority of their time participating in outdoor field study.
There is a lot of hands-on learning, and they are exposed to a number of different ideas, said Stacy Marshall, co-founder and vice president of Grounds for Change.
The Northwest Shade Coffee Campaign works to educate consumers on the importance of shade-grown coffee and its critical connection to migratory songbirds in the Pacific Northwest.
Save Our Wild Salmon, founded in 1991, is a nationwide coalition of conservation organizations, commercial and sport fishing associations, businesses, river groups, and taxpayer advocates whose goal is to restore Pacific Northwest wild salmon.
Grounds for Change roasts exclusively fair trade, organic, shade-grown coffee and has a comprehensive wholesale program for cafes and coffee shops as well as diverse online retail offerings. For more information, visit www.groundsforchange.com or call 800-796-6820. |
