Harmony Hill Executive Director receives award
Gretchen Schodde, founder and executive director of Harmony Hill Retreat Center was awarded the Distinguished Humanitarian Award from the University of Washington, School of Nursing at its 2006 Nurses Recognition Banquet on May 11. This award honors a nurse whose dedicated work and exemplary service has benefited society and the practice of nursing. King County Executive Ron Sims was the featured speaker.

Schodde has continuously demonstrated commitment to furthering the roles of nurse practitioners and fulfilling her calling as a nurse in the therapeutic community. She received her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1968 from the Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing, and master’s in nursing in 1975 from the UW. She was one of the first nurse practitioners in Washington State. In 1986 she founded Harmony Hill, a nonprofit retreat center with programs specially designed for individuals diagnosed with cancer.
