| The Kitsap County Chapter of the Puget Sound regional EnviroStars program proudly announced that Poulsbo-based Watson Furniture Group, a 5-Star EnviroStar rated business, was recently honored by the General Services Administration (GSA) with an Evergreen Award for exemplary environmental practices related to recycling, affirmative procurement and waste reduction. Watson provides the GSA with office furnishings made from recycled waste material collected from the floors of mills and other lumber operations in the Pacific Northwest.
The GSA is a centralized federal procurement and property management agency that provides furniture, furnishings and related services to the U.S. government. The GSA developed the Evergreen Award in 1998 to recognize its suppliers for their environmental efforts. Watson was the only furniture maker in the United States to receive this prestigious award in its category for 2005.
Watson has an impressive record of environmental commitment. The firms low-impact manufacturing practices, waste reduction efforts, recycling programs, and heavy reliance on recycled materials earned it a 5-Star rating from the county-directed EnviroStars certification program that recognizes businesses commited to hazardous waste reduction and pollution prevention. Watson is the only furniture manufacturing company in Western Washington to hold the highest rating in the EnviroStars program. |
